Code check for the United Arab Emirates
Status: not available yet. sazeh does not check a building against the codes of the United Arab Emirates today. It applies one other national set of codes, so a model checked here is not checked against ASCE 7, ACI 318 and AISC 360, commonly referred to. This page exists so that engineers working in the United Arab Emirates can ask for them: a country is added when enough of them do.
The codes that govern
Building codes in the emirates, such as the Abu Dhabi International Building Code and the Dubai Building Code, commonly refer to the US standards for structural design: ASCE 7 for loads and seismic design, ACI 318 for concrete and AISC 360 for steel. Which edition applies to a project is set by the authority that approves it.
What a check would cover
- The seismic hazard and the site class for the emirate, and the loads of the US standard.
- The story drift limit and the checks that a structural review normally starts with.
- Concrete and steel members under the edition the project names.
- A calculation sheet in English.
Before this country can be added
The United States profile comes first, because the emirates use it by reference. This country then needs a table of emirate and zone hazard values and the header of the sheet, and the question of which edition the authority requires, which only the engineers working on the project can answer.
Which building code applies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
Each emirate has its own authority and its own code. Abu Dhabi has the Abu Dhabi International Building Code (ADIBC) and Dubai has the Dubai Building Code. For structural design they commonly refer to the US standards, ASCE 7, ACI 318 and AISC 360. The edition that applies to a project is the one the approving authority names, so confirm it with the authority before you rely on any check.
Does sazeh check an ETABS model for a project in Dubai or Abu Dhabi?
No. sazeh applies one other national set of codes, so a model checked here is not checked against the codes of the emirates or the US standards they refer to. Use the form below to ask for it.
What sazeh does today
It analyses an ETABS model from its .e2k file and checks every member, joint and storey against one national set of codes, then returns a calculation sheet and a corrected model. The ETABS model check tool page says what is read and what is checked, and the limitations page says what is not verified.
